Sharpen That Swivel Knife

Using a swivel knife that isn't sharp will make an already difficult job even more difficult.

I always use a sharpening jig when I put a blade to a stone.  These are inexpensive readily available.

Take the same number of strokes on each side of the blade until it is evenly honed all the way across the width of the blade.  The corners (the part used to do the cutting) will be the last to touch the stone and will appear shiny until the whole width of the blade is evenly honed.

Leave the blade in the jig and strop it until it is polished and gives the feel you prefer.
Return the blade to your swivel knife and get back to work.
Remember to strop the blade the instant it starts to drag.

P.S.  A good starting point is aobut a 30 degree angle.  This will need to be adjusted to suit you, the kind of work you do and your blade/knife barrel combination.
